ACTS was founded in 2001 and has been co-directed for 14 years by Robert Olsavicky II and LaDonna Linamen.
Robert Olsavicky II has been a leader in church music in the Butler area for many years, serving as organist and director of choirs and orchestra. He also started the Butler County Festival Choir and Orchestra which included singers, musicians, and actors from all over the county. This group performed patriotic concerts on July 4th for many years as part of Butler’s city-wide celebration.
In Spring 2000, LaDonna Linamen, one of the members of Robert Olsavicky’s orchestra, founded and directed a new community ensemble based in Slippery Rock, PA, which included singers, musicians, and actors from over 20 local churches. The group began performing in Slippery Rock and Grove City, PA.
By Summer 2000, Bob and LaDonna decided to combine their efforts, merging several community groups from Slippery Rock, Butler, and surrounding communities. After two very successful concerts by this combined group for Christmas 2000 and Easter 2001, this newly formed community ensemble decided to adopt a name that would clearly describe the ensemble and its mission. In Summer 2001, the group became known as ACTS (Adoring Christ Thru Song).
ACTS is a diverse group of musicians, spanning a wide range of age, talent, and backgrounds, who come together to adore Christ through song. It is composed of people from the greater part of Butler County and surrounding counties and is always open to new members. The ACTS musical ensemble includes a choir, orchestra, and drama group and performs a varied repertoire that includes hymns (both traditional and Praise & Worship), seasonal cantatas, and patriotic and classical music.
Over the years, besides performing a full calendar of concerts, ACTS has been privileged to participate in special events such as the annual Remembrances, Tinsels, and Tears service, community Thanksgiving programs, the Musicians' Concert Band Christmas Concert, and at Heinz Hall during the Christmas season.
Now as ACTS begins its 2017-2018 season, we are excited to introduce our new director, Kate Cotter. We welcome her into our musical family.
Anyone who loves God and enjoys fellowship in
music with instrument or voice is welcome to join the group.
